iOS and Android Accessibility Exploring Tech Webinar This Week
This event is being held on the 31st of august (the last Wednesday of the month as usual), but you can catch up with it afterwards on the Vision Australia Youtube channel.
This blog article does summarise the main benefits and challenges of Android verses iOS, in a nut shell, most common apps work, Braille is poor, and extra functionality that iOs VoiceOver has is not there.
However, it did not explore low vision, and if you do need a cheaper phone, it is certainly doable.

September 7/8 Far out event from Apple iPhone 14 and Apple Watch 8.
I’m seriously underwhelmed by both the iPhone 14 and the Apple Watch 8: more or less the same stuff but a bit faster, more battery life, etc etc.
StellaTrek
This is the next version of the Victor Trek. Pleased to see it is based on Android, offering both GPS and OCR/image recognition in a custom form which is easy to use.
Probably a little bit on the pricy side.
Aira Comes to the Envision Glasses
Handy if you allready have a pair or are thinking about getting these glasses, but I wouldn’t purchase them just for Aira: lots of money for what a smart phone does.
Speaking of phones, Aira is coming to the Blind Shell Classic 2 phone as well.
Fathers Day Gift Ideas
Sangean Accessible AM/FM Radio, Olitech mobile phones (all versions), Shokz Opencomm, Blind Shell Classic 2, Arkon desktop Smart Phone stand.
‘
If Dad already has an iPhone, you can’t go past getting an Apple Watch for keeping track of overall well being.
