Yom Kippur is a Day of Awe but we often experience it as an Awful Day--with the pain of fasting, staying in shul all day, feeling weaker by the hour, and figuring out "how many hours left." But Yom Kippur is an opportunity to dialogue with God and actually "hear" His Response. That is called Teshuva--returning your thoughts to God. If you ask, He Will Respond.
