Tamil Nadu - Only when we started digging its political history did we find that the state’s name didn’t exist before 1969. Armed with such ignorance, we take a journey into the history of politics in Tamil Nadu to see where we have come from. Because if you look at where we are right now, amidst all this circus and gymnastics, it is hard to understand what’s happening and even harder to trust our leaders, as the two major leaders who have been playing musical chair with the CM post passed away. This change has created a crisis in ideology and naturally a crisis in leadership. New leaders are emerging, from the same cinema field which has been acting as the propagandist for politicians since the 60s. Not only that, old parties are facing internal conflicts and the ruling government is hanging by a thread, with one of the accusations against it being a puppet of the ruling central government. The BJP which already gained ground during the Lok Sabha polls is gaining further ground not in vote share but in mind share. Overall, the people of Tamil Nadu are facing uncertainty like we have never seen before. A new age begins and we felt it is important to document this turning point in the history of Tamil Nadu, previously known as the Madras state.
