Listen Later

Surf's up, beach lovers! Pack your sunscreen and get ready for a sizzling day along West Central Florida's coastline. Today's looking like a picture-perfect beach day from Cedar Key to Fort Myers Beach - but don't let the calm waters fool you.

We've got some serious rip current action happening from Pinellas to Lee County. High risk alert for coastal swimmers until Thursday morning, so listen up and stay safe! North winds are cranking around 15 miles per hour, creating challenging surf conditions with waves ranging from 1 to 2 feet.

Water temperatures are sitting pretty in the upper 70s, and the sun is bringing serious heat with a very high UV index. Translation: sunscreen is not optional, it's mandatory! Expect gloriously sunny skies and temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 70s.

Tide watchers, mark your calendars. Cedar Key sees low tide at 6:58 AM and high tide at 1:04 PM. Saint Petersburg follows a similar rhythm with low tide at 7:14 AM and high tide at 1:50 PM. Fort Myers Beach has its own dance, with high tide hitting at 12:40 PM.

As night falls, winds will shift from northwest to northeast, cooling things down to the mid-50s in some areas. Thursday promises more sunshine and slightly calmer conditions with winds easing to around 5-10 miles per hour.

Pro tip: While the rip current risk drops to low or moderate by Thursday, always respect the ocean. Those jetties, piers, and reefs can create unexpected current challenges. Stay alert, swim smart, and enjoy the beautiful Florida coastline!
