What creates value? How is value created? Are the methods that are being used to create value today optimal? We are still living in the shadow of the Global Financial Crisis. The material world has been shaken by the financial scare that hit the liquidity markets nearly a decade ago. Whilst the dust has started to settle, what has emerged is a growing wealth gap, rapidly rising inequality and consequent homelessness. In 1998 Sanders spoke to congress about the attitudes and modalities that led to what became a huge casino mentality on Wall Street. While people were forced out of their homes in middle America and around the world, we were told that the banks were too big to fail. We were told that the tax payers needed to bail out the institutions that had failed so massively. I reached out to C Derick Varn to discuss Georges Bataille, however putting first things first – we needed to discuss Marxism and why it is still necessary to understand the critique of capitalism that is nearly 150 years old.
