As we pause and reflect on two years since Tropical Storm Helene, we sat down and had a discussion with Buncombe County Helene Recovery Officer, Kevin Madsen. Learn about the progress the County has made in recovery. Kevin shares the collaborations between nonprofits and government that are helping residents recover after the storm. We are all in this recovery together and learned more about what the role the County is playing in this process.

September is national preparedness month and today we are speaking to Scott Krein, Buncombe County Emergency Management Manager. He is here to share tips on getting prepared for emergency or disasters and how to keep yourself and family prepared if such a time is called upon.

International Overdose Awareness Day in Asheville, North Carolina, is marked annually on August 31st. Jenesis Nicolaisen Executive director of Seek Healing, a nonprofit organization and Jessica Shepard-Joundry, liaison with the WNC Recovery Rally. They are here to share of their work in recovery and events coming up in Buncombe County.

Today we have Alex McKnight, Buncombe County Interim Public Safety Communication Officer, and Michael Newsome, Buncombe County 911 Operations Division Manager. They will give us updates on what is going on in the department of 911. Public Safety has moved to a new location, they are requesting for more applicants to apply for job opportunities and sharing a glimpse into the world of 911 and Public Safety.

Today, we have Victoria Reichard, Buncombe County Behavior Health Manager. She will discuss what is going on in her department and how they are addressing Opioid crisis and use of the legal settlement funds to support community. 34 million dollars over 18 years will be dispersed to Buncombe County for treatment and resources for recovery. We have Amy Huntsman, Buncombe County social worker supervisor, and Sandra Elliot, local foster care parent to discuss how to become a foster parent. Ms. Elliot will share of her experience as a foster care parent. Listen to learn how you can support this program and the youth in our community.

Today we have Drew Reisinger, Buncombe County Register of Deeds. He will discuss the diaper drive that will support families with babies in partnership of nonprofit Babies Need Bottoms. We will also learn about all the services the Register of Deeds offers.
