This "Targeted Topic" is a standalone episode -- you don't need to have listened to rest of Season 1! “The saddest part of her story was written on her face in its look of suppression and misery, the face of a child unloved.” I’m going to take you back to 1874, before there were any social agencies dedicated to the welfare of children. Once upon a time in New York, when Etta Wheeler wanted to save an abused child, she turned to the only organization she could find that would help.  The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.  You see, children and spouses had no legal protection, but animals did. And through creative thinking, one woman, with the help of a philanthropist, began a movement that hoped to change the world, one child at a time.
