Tavon Phillips: Life During Covid, Baltimore

Listen Later

In 2021, a coalition of national museum and library associations awarded the Peale (Baltimore, Maryland) a Communities for Immunity grant. The goal of the project is for trusted, local institutions to engage their communities in order to boost COVID-19 vaccine confidence. Since being awarded the grant, we've been gathering stories from people about their experiences with COVID and getting the vaccine.
Tavon Phillips (00:02): How y'all doing? My name Tayvon Phillips for the AAA Apprentices. We're here talk about COVID, when the store shut down. My favorite store shut down; I was mad. You feel me? I'm mad. And I don't know another store to go to, that was the closest store. And all this and all that.
Tavon Phillips (00:24): And the mail, mail coming late. I ain't no what to do. I keep checking my phone thinking my mail going to come on the right time, then it takes comes a week later. This pandemic, that . . . it was going crazy. [laughter 00:00:36] Staying inside while this pandemic was going on. I had my little game system, I'm chilling. I just can't stand how it’s too [inaudible 00:00:48] to get some fresh air. At least take a walk or something.
Tavon Phillips (01:02): Yeah, if they shut down again, I'm, yeah I'm going to be ready. They caught me off guard last time. I ain't know what to do. With all the stores, you can't get your hair cut, everything is shut down, groceries. What are we going to eat? [laughing] Like, I don't know, they caught me off guard. Now, I'm definitely ready now.
