Publisher's Summary:
"Sometimes life gooses you when you're not looking. You might be happily coasting through days in a little New Jersey suburb, dreaming about Jennifer Williams and making plans to see the new movie showing uptown when - bam! - everything changes in an instant. Your family moves overseas, and suddenly you're hacking at water demons with a four-foot blade."
Yeah, that move landed me in the middle of a supernatural assignment. Angels and all that. Relighting the Flame of Findul...the sword that guards the Tree of Life...wasn't high on my bucket list. Especially when I found out who else was looking for the sword. But since the alternative was perishing in a fiery, worldwide disaster.... Well, let's just say my priorities changed.
I was told I'd have help. I was told I'd be in capable hands. Then I met my guardian angel.
I am so doomed.

Thoughtful adventure
I usually pass right by sneak previews of books. I figure if you're going to get someone to invest a whole series (let's face the ugly truth, series are the trend these days) you should grab them hook, line and sinker. However, I just finished "Song of the Mountain" by Michelle Isenhoff and absolutely loved the original story line and characters. When I saw a preview of this one I thought I'd give it a try as well and will definitely be purchasing the book in whole shortly! As it stands, this is the beginning of a well thought out adventure with quirky characters - my favorite kind - and will surely be one I'll recommend to my kids. I've just begun looking into the rest of Michelle Isenhoff's books and I'm pretty sure my whole family will be entertained for quite some time.
Perfectly Funny
With the first sentence being "Sometimes life gooses you when you're not looking." how could you not read the rest of the book? Even though the book is not the kind of great literature that keeps me up at night thinking about it (which is usually what I reserve my fives for) I went ahead and gave this a five star anyway, because for the intended audience, this book is PERFECT. Full of fun characters, wild situations, and lots of snark, only tweens who don't understand humor will not absolutely love this book. The story ends on a humdinger of a cliffhanger which will drive the reader to instantly demand that the next book be purchased RIGHT NOW.

This amounts to a trailer for the book. The start was fun. I'm still deciding whether to get the entire book.
Loved it!
This cute story caught me in the opening paragraph and held me in its hilarious clutches 'til the last word, leaving me crying out for the next episode! So cleverly written was this book, that I forgot I was an adult reading a book aimed at middle graders. This is the kind of story that makes a grown-up search for an excuse to read it. (Kind of like when I borrowed a friend's grandchildren so I had an excuse to go see Toy Story in the theater.) Highly recommend!
Episode 1 of a well-written, unique and quirky story
Heads up! This is an episode of a longer work! I wasn't paying attention and flew through the pages of this well-written, unique and quirky book, only to have it end on a cliffhanger.
