After watching the Munich Glockenspiel, with its two tiers depicting pivotal moments in the city’s history, Käri imagines what her own personal Glockenspiel might reveal about the most formative experiences of her life so far.

Käri describes her personal process for settling into new areas, which she divides into 3 main stages:

Käri shares about her final days in Scandinavia (for now), and her relocation to Munich, Germany!

After a trip to Hamlet’s Helsingør, Käri considers how our surrounding people and places shape us, drawing on the “you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with” theory to explore the world of Hamlet, and our own.

With her job search yielding no success so far, Käri begins to consider that her door to a permanent stay in Denmark may be closing for now. She then shares three ways to finish the phrase “When one door closes…” drawing on expressions from English, Italian, and Spanish.

Käri recounts eating a “viking club,” singing songs she didn’t understand, and gathering around a huge harbour bonfire beneath a sun hesitant to set.

After her first month in Denmark, Käri has determined that the Danes have just two main weather rules.

Rule 1: Never pause for adverse weather.

Rule 2: Always pivot for sunshine.

Apparently, ‘hygge’ isn’t confined to the winter season. Käri reflects on summer hygge in Denmark so far. :)

Käri shares 3 Danish discoveries this week that made her stop and ask, “Wait, what?” They involve numbers, names, and pastries. She explains how the number system seems to require arithmetic, Curious George isn’t Curious George, and “danishes” are called something else in Denmark.
