TCS, Infosys, HCL and Wipro offer incentives for employees to return to office

After almost 18 months of lockdown and the IT industry in India working from home, the urge to bring things back into the office has been gaining ground. All major IT companies in India have been providing their staff with the option to work from home which the employees have gleefully accepted and moved back to their native towns to escape the massive living expenses in cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi.
The staff were provided with allowances to set up their own mini office and they have jumped right in to ensure that productivity is not affected. It is “business as usual”. The comfort of working from home was far superseded by the fact that they did not have to commute long distances to get to work nor worry about meals or clothes. They could finally do the one thing that they were being paid for – work.
With the 2nd wave declining fast and more vaccination drives happening across the country, the whole landscape is set to change all over again. Many corporate houses are now actively organising vaccination drives for their employees as a way to ensure that their talent pool does not get further affected by the virus. Companies are also trying to safeguard their employees by providing the vaccine free of cost and at times even for the whole family.
Companies are now trying to get the employees back to the office to ensure that the whole work from home concept does not become a permanent fixture and that the work culture of these companies can be protected.
With the powerful nature of Social Media at play, no company wants to be in the limelight for the wrong reasons. Many companies have used their bereavement packages for employees who have passed away due to the virus for some positive PR. This includes paying for the children’s education, full salary for 2 more years and even offering the spouse a job at the company. They believe that the “Back to Work” incentive plans can also help in making them the most preferred employer for the best talent in the country.
We spoke to HR and People managers of the top 4 IT companies in India who gave us a rundown of the various schemes and policies that are in planning to get the employees back in the office by the end of Q3. Apart from providing vaccinations, the companies have all drawn up different incentives to all those who will voluntarily start coming back to the office.
