God has promises for your life. But what if the thing standing between you and what He has spoken isn't God?

In Joshua 1, Moses is dead, a season has ended, and God tells Joshua it is time to arise and go. The land has already been given. The promise is already established. But Joshua still has to move his feet and take possession of it.

There is a difference between knowing the Word and allowing the Word to get inside of you. There is a difference between talking about the promise and partnering with God to possess it. Sometimes the greatest resistance to growth isn't outright disobedience. It's passivity. It's settling for good enough. It's wanting an encounter with God without allowing that encounter to change us.

God is inviting you into more, but more may require leaving something behind. It may require movement. It may stretch you beyond what feels comfortable, familiar, or safe. The promise is there. The question is whether you're ready to arise and go.

Jesus said His sheep know His voice and will run from the voice of a stranger. But what happens when the strange voices have become familiar? We can become so accustomed to the voice of fear, failure, disappointment, religion, our past, or even our own reasoning that we recognize those voices more quickly than we recognize the voice of our Shepherd.

In this episode of Teach and Talk, Lisa Schwarz explores John 10 and what it means to truly know the voice of God. Hearing Him isn't simply about receiving direction. It's about becoming so familiar with His heart and His nature that you can recognize what sounds like Him and what doesn't.

There will always be competing narratives over your life.

God says one thing, while your circumstances say another. Your past has a story. Fear has a story. Other people may have an opinion about what is possible for you. And somewhere in the middle of all that noise, you have to decide which voice gets to shape what you believe.

In Numbers 13, Caleb stood in the middle of a people overwhelmed by what they could see and silenced the narrative that contradicted what God had already said. The giants were real, but so was the promise.

God never intended for you to experience Him through someone else's relationship with Him.

In Exodus 33, the Israelites stood at the doors of their tents watching the presence of God descend upon Moses. They could see the cloud. They could witness the encounter. But Moses stepped inside and spoke with God face to face, as a man speaks with a friend. Through Jesus, that same invitation has been extended to us.

What do you do when you know God has spoken, but nothing around you looks like what He said? In 1 Kings 18, Elijah heard the sound of an abundance of rain while the land was still in drought. There was no storm on the horizon and no natural evidence that anything was changing. But Elijah heard something in the Spirit, and what he heard gave him the tenacity to pray until what God had revealed became visible.

In this episode of Teach and Talk, Lisa Schwarz explores the connection between supernatural senses, intercessory prayer, and perseverance. God is always speaking, but learning to recognize His voice requires us to cultivate our spiritual senses and quiet the natural noise competing for our attention. And hearing is only the beginning. Sometimes God gives us insight into what He wants to do because He is inviting us to partner with Him in prayer. The word isn't always the finish line. It may be the invitation to travail, intercede, persevere, and pray until something moves.

Lisa challenges us to stop measuring God's word by what we can currently see and to become people who know how to pivot without quitting, recognize even the smallest evidence of movement, and keep praying until the assignment is complete.

Maybe you don't see the rain yet. Maybe all you have is the sound. Keep praying.
