In the gospel of Luke chapter 11, Jesus was teaching us how to pray. He used the illustration of a man coming to his friend’s house saying, “Somebody at midnight has come to me and I have nothing to set before him.” And He says, even though he won’t rise because he’s his friend, yet because of his insistence he will rise and give him as much as he needs. Jesus says, “I say to you ask and it shall be given to you, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened to you.”
“If you know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?” My friend, it’s midnight. It’s a darkened time. It’s a difficult time. It’s a time of struggle and trial and distress in our culture, and people are coming our way and you and I need something to set before them.
We have to go to the throne of God and say, “God you have what I need.”
It’s time to pray.
