The annual meeting is the "beating heart" of Symposion Network. This year it took place in Kalmar, Sweden. It was again an inspiration for internationalisation in teacher education, fostering a European thinking in the educational world. Our first guest of the new series 3 on "Teaching difficult topics" is Simon Brennan of Mary Immaculate College in Limerick in Ireland. He lectures in philosophy of education and is conducting research on dialogical education and the challenges teachers face in an increasingly complex and demanding world.

Miquel for many years was one of the columns Symposion Network is standing on - for more then 15 years he was a driving force for internationalisation at the University of Barcelona and an important member of Symposion Network and since 7 years also in the Steering Team of the network. Miquel is starting his well deserved retirement and we still don't know what we will do without him. The "Teaching Europe Podcast" therefore devotes a special honoring episode to Miquel and wishes all the best for the coming years and many great hikes and maybe also visits at Symposion meetings. Miquel gives an overview of the major changes which have happened to European university internationalisation in the last decade and has a look into possible future developments.

Guests in episode 5 of the Learning Spaces Series of the Teaching Europe Podcast are Sindre Slettedal Sandbak and Synnøve Hedemann Amdam from Volda University College, Norway about the Media Lab which is included in the college library and the development of digital learning spaces in education.

Gabi Steinmair teaches at Pädagogische Hochschule Oberösterreich in Linz in the teacher training program for primary school teachers. She has worked as primary school teacher herself before and developed a "material based learning space" approach in which children can learn with especially prepared materials and a lot of indepence. Her special focus is reading and writing acquisition. During a Symposion Network Steering Team planning meeting in Jagodina Serbia, this podcast was recorded about the outdoor learning spaces at the university which date back to the founder of the institution.

Series 2 of the "Teaching Europe Podcast" has the topic "Learning Spaces". As usual we speak with experts of Symposion Network member universities from all over Europe. Guests in episode 1 are Liz Curtis and Jo Vergunst from the University of Aberdeen they speak with Christian Kogler about "Voices of the future".

They are part of the research project ‘Voices of the Future: Collaborating with children and young people to re-imagine treescapes’. It’s part of a wider UK programme of research into the future of UK treescapes – environments where trees play a significant role. Voices of the Future explores how children’s voices can be listened to and schools can integrate trees and woods into their learning practices.
