During the first week of September the Presbyterian congregations of Annalong, Kilkeel and Mourne gather together for 6 evenings of Bible teaching, delivered by Rev David Johnston. The text for the week was Hebrews 11, looking at Heroes of the Faith.
Unfortunately we were unable to record the Thursday meeting of our teaching, but on Friday evening we looked at Hebrews 11 v 23-28 (ESV). This section of the chapter considered Faith's Cost, looking at Moses and the story of the Exodus. The cost of faith in God by Moses was seen in
- the protection Moses was given,
- the decision that Moses made,
- the perseverance that Moses learned, and
- the provision that Moses embraced.
Moses gave up all the pleasures and privileges of the Egyptian court so that he would be faithful to the one true God. He knew he could not serve two masters and instead lived by faith before God Almighty. This faith was commended in Hebrews 11 as Moses recognising the reproach of Christ of greater wealth than all the treasures in Egypt.
