Today I am joined by Emelia Dermott a 19 year old boxer. She is a NextGen athlete, a several time national champion and a silver medalist at youth continentals. Besides being an olympic style boxer she is currently in her third year at the university of Ottawa studying human kinetics. Emelia is also an advocate about mental health as it is something that she has dealt with in her life. Her goal is to create less stigma surrounding mental health and hopes to inspire young adults to talk more about their struggles.
We spoke about her journey with mental health while being a boxer for Team Canada. She also opened up about where her mental health struggles began and what she has done to help herself through this. She wants to reach as many individuals as possible in hopes to help normalize the idea of mental health. Emelia is a strong, smart and a passionate person for what she does, and I truly loved talking with her!
