INSIGHT: Team Work
Team work is the power to understand people differences and to integrate and achieve a task together with the understanding of peoples temperament and individual personality.
No man can work in a team if you neglect the Key Principles of Collaboration and Cooperation.
The world metrics of staying in a team is to understand who is the lead and the player. Most time the lead is not the best in the team. So to perform better in the team we need to understand the following: What people don't understand is that as a team lead you give people ability to show and unleash themselves. In my experience as a team in the past years, I discover that every time I have the opportunity to lead my ideas is not always the best. But to be frank I always tell my players to play so I follow. I don't love position I love service because it gives you opportunity to learn. You lead by following and not by commanding. Most time when people assume leadership position they use the post roughly. Look at OAU for instance the students lead use radicalism too much to mess up things. So far you are the president of fellowship, department or faculty; that doesn't amount to total authority.
When you are given a chance to lead and you are out in a position we will put you into questionings after a while maybe it is the position that is leading you or you see the need to take the lead.
When you're in a position as a leader, don't see yourself as a leader. You're to see the people you're leading as the people leading you. Because when you don't agree to their opinions most times, you're about to fail and there's high probability that you might fail because you don't lead by commanding authority, you lead by following the opinions and the step of people you're leading. This is one of the problems in Nigeria whereby a lot of our leaders fails to listen to us when we drive out a good idea. Take a look at this pandemic period whereby a lot of things are up and down as a result of lack of teamwork. We have leadership problem in Nigeria because teamwork goes with team spirit.
A lot of people fail to understand that when you're in a team, no matter your position, you have to work together and make sure you achieve the aims and objectives of the team. But when you're putting responsibility to one person especially the team lead and most times the team lead may not have the best idea; It might be someone in the team. Even as a team lead what you need is to help others to unleash their potential because when you talk most times you'll not be respected. So as a team lead, you're to follow people's opinions. Though most times you've to take some drastic movement but when you allow people to unleash their potential and listen to their ideas. Even the team lead idea might be the wrong idea. Sometimes protocol is not the best option in life, sometimes you have to look at people's opinions. Sam Adeyemi said, “Ideas rule the world.”
Without everyone working together we can't have success in the future of what we’re looking for. Take for instance the Sustainable Development Goals, Partnership is part of the goals. Partnership simply means teamwork i.e. all hands must be on deck.
Teamwork is based on Collaboration and Cooperation. And when you're in a team; Service to humanity is the best work of life. Being in a team requires you to cooperate with everyone, to collaborate ideas, come up with opinions. Even when you give opinions and people seems not to accept such opinion, just take it and go back and restrategize such opinion. Always allow people to attack your opinion because it will build you. Always love to work with a team, be open-minded, don't appear like God; always appear like a learner because what you don't know.
