Teaser: I Put That In. Willie Blake Conversation: Community Transformer, About Action

Listen Later

This conversation with Willie Blake Jr. took place on September 5, 2022. I was in Tucson for a meeting, visit family, and to learn.

I wanted to learn how do I get my name on a park while still alive without writing a BIG check or being maimed.

That’s my selfish reason for wanting to talk to Willie Blake Jr. The museum asked me to reach out to him. The museum has stories to tell.

Willie Blake Jr is here to tell a story about his journey from rural Arkansas to Tucson.

  • We discussed working within the unions to ensure truck drivers improved their stake in life.
  • Moving West because that’s where the opportunities were
  • Retiring and learning that his community wasn’t the safe place he thought it was.
  • Working to get over $6MM in grants to make changes to transform his community.
  • Everyone has a role in transforming the community.
  • The importance of land and being a good neighbor.
  • And I introduce him to Sir Bikes-A-Lot, my folding bike.
