Tech's Last Call Episode 117: Good Job, Ed

We all witnessed history in the past week. For the first time since 1978, our usually fascinatingly technophobic Congress reacted to the Snowden revelations (almost two years to the day later) and limited the NSA's power. Specifically, the Senate allowed Section 215 of the Patriot to expire, and then, passed the USA FREEDOM Act. All this means that the NSA can no longer bulk collect cellphone metadata on USA citizens. Instead, they have to make specific requests to the phone companies. This is not a perfect law and does not end all spying on USA citizens, but it is still a meaningful gesture that Congress rarely makes. This is a direct consequence of what Edward Snowden did. There was other news this week and other stories on the show, but for once, I don't want to bury the lead.
