A large proportion of the National Construction Code (NCC) concerns itself with the design of buildings for fire safety. The NCC sets out the minimum fire safety requirements for all buildings in Australia, while the means for satisfying these requirements are detailed in the Australian Masonry Structures standard AS 3700. The NCC specifies that fire rated walls shall be designed to achieve three Fire Resistance Levels (FRLs); Structural adequacy, Integrity & Insulation.
