브린 브라운 : 취약점의 힘
We are the most in debt, obese, addicted and medicated adult cohort in US history.
우리 세대가 미국 역사상 가장 부채가 많고, 비만이고, 중독에 많이 걸려있고, 약 또한 많이 복용하는 어른 집단(세대)입니다.
The problem is – and I learned this from the research – that you cannot selectively numb emotion. 그런데 문제는 – 이건 제가 제 연구를 통해 배운거죠 – 감정을 선택적으로 마비시킬 수 없다는 것입니다. (감각이 없는)
You can’t say, here’s the bad stuff. 여러분들은 “이건 나쁜거야”라고 무시해 버릴 수 없어요.
Here’s vulnerability, here’s grief, here’s shame, here’s fear, here’s disappointment.
I don’t want to feel these. 나는 취약성, 비통함, 수치감, 공포감, 실망감 같이 나쁜 것들은 느끼고 싶지 않아.
I’m going to have a couple of beers and banana nut muffin. 그러니 맥주나 두어 병 마시고 바나나 머핀이나 먹자. 그거죠
I don’t want to feel these. 난 이런걸 느끼고 싶지 않아,
And I know that knowing laughter. 뭘 좀 아는 웃음이군요.
I hack into your lives for living. God. 제 직업은 여러분들의 생활을 파고 들어가는거에요. 미안해요. (웃음)
You can’t numb those hard feelings 그런데 이런 어려운 감정만 마비시키는 것은 불가능하죠
without numbing the other affects, our emotions. 우리의 다른 감정에 영향을 주지 않고는.
You cannot selectively numb. 선택적으로 감정을 마비시킬 수 없으니까요.
So when we numb those, we numb joy, we numb gratitude, we numb happiness. 그래서 감정을 마비시키면 우리는 즐거움도 마비시키고, 고마운 마음도 마비시키고 행복감도 마비시키게 되요.
And then we are miserable, 그럼 우린 비참해지고,
and we are looking for purpose and meaning, 삶의 목적과 의미를 찾으려고 할 때
and then we feel vulnerable, 취약성을 느끼게 되죠.
so then we have a couple of beers and a banana nut muffin. 또 다시 맥주나 바나나 머핀이나 먹으면서
And it becomes this dangerous cycle. 악순환이 시작되는 거에요.
