Until somebody said, 결국 누군가가 이렇게 말해주더군요.

"Look, if you're serious about this, "이거 보세요, 이런걸 진짜 할 생각이라면,

you first have to write a book about your research. 당신의 연구에 대해서 먼저 책을 한 권 쓰세요.

You have to publish something, 뭐든지 꼭 책을 내야 되요.

and then you'll get the opportunity to write something else. 그러고 나면 다른 것에 대해 쓸 기회를 얻을 수 있을겁니다.

If you really want to do it you have to do it." 정말로 하고 싶으면 꼭 그렇게 하셔야 합니다."

So I said, "You know, I really don't want to write about my research. 그래서 제가 말했죠, "저, 제 연구에 대해서는 정말 쓰고 싶지 않은데요.

I do this all day long. I want to write something else. 하루 종일 이것만 하는데... 뭔가 다른 것에 대해 쓰고 싶어요.

Something a bit more free, less constrained." 좀 더 자유롭고, 제약이 적은 것으로요."

And this person was very forceful and said, 그러니까 이 분이 아주 강력하게 말씀하시더군요.

"Look. That's the only way you'll ever do it." "그것 말고는 다른 방법이 없습니다."

So I said, "Okay, if I have to do it -- " 그래서 제가 그랬죠. "그래, 꼭 해야 한다면..."

I had a sabbatical. 안식년을 가지게 되었죠. (특히 대학 교수들이 일상 업무를 벗어나 연구나 여행을 하는 기간)

I said, "I'll write about my research if there is no other way."다른 방법이 없다면 내 연구에 대해서 쓰자.

And then I'll get to do my cookbook." 그러고 나서 요리책을 써야지."

So I wrote a book on my research. 그래서 제 연구에 대한 책을 썼습니다.
