So after being at MIT for a few years, MIT에서 몇 년 지내고나서

I realized that writing academic papers is not that exciting. 학술논문을 쓰는 것이 지루하게 느껴졌습니다.

You know, I don't know how many of those you read, 글쎄요.. 여러분중에 그런 글을 읽는 분들이 얼마나 될지 모르지만

but it's not fun to read and often not fun to write -- even worse to write. 읽기에도 재미없고, 쓰는 일도 대개 재미없죠. 사실 쓰는 일이 훨씬 재미없습니다.

So I decided to try and write something more fun. 그래서 좀 더 재미있는 것을 써보기로 했습니다.

And I came up with an idea that I will write a cookbook. 그리고, 요리책을 써보면 어떨까 생각했죠.

And the title for my cookbook was going to be 요리책의 제목은 이렇게 붙이려고 했습니다.

"Dining Without Crumbs: The Art of Eating Over the Sink." (Laughter) "흘리지 않고 먹기:싱크대에서 먹는 기술" (웃음)

And it was going to be a “look at life through the kitchen”. 그리고, 부엌을 통해 바라본 인생에 대해 쓰려고 했죠.

And I was quite excited about this. 정말 좋은 아이디어라고 생각했어요.

I was going to talk a little bit about research, a little bit about the kitchen. 연구에 대한 것도 좀 넣고, 부엌에 대해서도 좀 넣고...

You know, we do so much in the kitchen 부엌에서 하는 일이 얼마나 많습니까?

I thought this would be interesting. 진짜 재미있을 것 같았죠.

And I wrote a couple of chapters. 그리고, 몇 챕터를 썼습니다.

And I took it to MIT press and they said, 그리고, MIT 출판부에 가지고 갔더니

"Cute, but not for us. Go and find somebody else." "귀엽지만 우리와는 안 맞군요. 다른 데 가보시죠." 라고 하더군요.

I tried other people and everybody said the same thing, "Cute. Not for us."

다른 데도 물어봤는데 다들 똑같이 말하더군요. "귀엽지만 우리와는 안 맞군요."
