So let me share some final thoughts. 제 마무리 생각들을 말씀 드리도록 하겠습니다.
We need to invest more resources into research and treatment of mental illness. 우린 정신 질환에 대한 연구와 치료에 더 많은 지원을 투자해야 합니다.
The better we understand these illness, 우리가 이 병들을 더 많이 이해할수록,
the better the treatments we can provide, 더 많은 치료를 공급 할 수 있고,
and the better the treatment we can provide, 더 나은 치료를 할수록
the more we can offer people care, 사람들에게 더 많은 관심을 기울일 수 있습니다.
and not have to use force. 그리고 강제력을 행사하지 않아도 되죠.
Also, we must stop criminalizing mental illness. 또한, 우리는 정신병을 죄처럼 여기는 걸 멈춰야 합니다.
It’s a national tragedy and scandal 국가적 비극이며 스캔들입니다.
that the L.A. County Jail is the biggest psychiatric facility in the United States.
LA 교도소가 미국내 가장 큰 정신병동이라는 사실은
American prisons and jails are filled with people 미국내 구치소와 교도소는 사람들로 가득합니다.
who suffer from severe mental illness, 심각한 정신 질환을 겪는
and many of them are there because they never received adequate treatment. 그리고 그들의 많은 수가 적절한 치료를 받지 못해서 그곳에 있습니다.
I could have easily ended up there or on the streets myself.
제 자신도 아주 간단히 그런 곳이나 노숙자가 될 수 있었습니다.
