When I was in my 20s, I saw my very first psychotherapy client. 제가 20대였을 때 처음으로 심리치료 환자를 치료하게 됐어요.
I was a Ph.D. student in clinical psychology at Berkeley. 전 버클리대에서 임상 심리학 박사과정 중이었고,
She was a 26-year-old woman named Alex. 첫 상대는 26살의 알렉스란 여자였습니다.
Now Alex walked into her first session wearing jeans and a big slouchy top, 상담 첫날 알렉스는 청바지에 껄렁해 보이는 상의를 입고 나타나
and she dropped onto the couch in my office and kicked off her flats 제 사무실 카우치 위로 쓰러지더니 아무렇게나 신발을 벗어 던지며
and told me she was there to talk about guy problems. 남자 문제 때문에 왔다고 말하더군요.
Now when I heard this, I was so relieved. 그 말을 듣고 저는 무척이나 안심했죠.
My classmate got an arsonist for her first client. (Laughter) 제 친구의 첫 의뢰인은 방화범이었거든요. (웃음)
And I got a twenty something who wanted to talk about boys. 전 그냥 남자 얘기나 하려는 20대 풋내기를 만났던 거죠.
This I thought I could handle. 잘 할 수 있겠다 생각했어요. (감당하다, 다루다)
