A 16-year-old South Australian boy, Oliver Tokic-Bensley, was bitten on the foot by what is believed to be a bronze whaler shark while surfing approximately 100 metres offshore at Middleton Beach on Good Friday. He paddled back to shore and received medical treatment at Victor Harbour Hospital, remarkably requiring no stitches. Separately, fishermen off the coast of Robe encountered a great white shark estimated at 3 to 4 metres in length swimming past their 3.7 metre tinny.
