Second on just as good as the first!
I loved the first book in this series, and I am SO happy to see that the second book is just as good, if not better, than the first one! I preordered this MONTHS ago, because I was so excited to see that it was forthcoming. This series is fun, fast paced, well written. I love, love, love the characters. In this genre it is hard to find a unique character, and while hardly a unique setting, the characters have their own voices.
It's just a fun great read. If you are a fan of "Cozies" or period mysteries. Start this series!
I wish I wouldn't have to wait probably another year for the next one to come out!
Took Awhile
I had enjoyed the first instalment of this series and had no hesitation in downloading the second when I saw it. I actually struggled with the beginning of this book. The plot was a little convoluted and Lola annoyed me. An unconventional woman going to great lengths to avoid her mother? The plot did hit its stride about two thirds of the way in and finished with Lola moving on in her new life. So I guess I ended up giving this a more favourable rating than I was going to.
A Colorful Comical Mystery.
A nearly flat broke Lola Woodby and her cook Berta take a seemingly simple job of retrieving a diary only to find themselves in the center of a murder. The sequel to the book "Come Hell or Highball" brings back the ladies of the Discreet Retreval agency for more mystery and mayhem in an entertaning yet comical mystery. Just like the first book in the series I highly recommend this read for anyone who loves mystery.
What a fun read!
I love this series! In this installment, down and out society girl Lola, and her partner/former cook Berta, go to a health farm to try to retrieve a diary for a client. Murder and mayhem ensue. The 1920s setting is great and the characters are engaging. Looking forward to the next one!
