“Never stop doing what you are doing young man!” Those were the words that made me come up with a positive theme every day. It was a beautiful Tuesday morning and I was working valet Downtown. I get paged to bring a CEO’s vehicle up to the front of the building. First, I retrieve the keys at the valet station, then take the elevators in the lobby to the basement where his car is located. Next, I drive the automobile up to the front and patiently wait with a smile for the owner to come down and get in his car. Last, I open up the driver’s door for him and say, “Have a terrific Tuesday” as he is about to head in to work.
Now lunchtime comes around and he comes back to his residency for a quick break, pulling his vehicle up to the front. I greet him again with a smile and open his door. He says, “Never stop doing what you are doing young man!” I’m not sure what he’s talking about. Then he explains, “When you said have a terrific Tuesday, your voice was ringing in my head. I got to work and started telling my employees to have a terrific Tuesday. It was like a ripple effect of a simple positive saying changing the outcome of everyone’s day.” When I heard that my mindset shifted from being a valet driver to someone that’s going to use this position as platform for speaking. You never know what you might say to make a difference in someone’s life. Have a terrific Tuesday!
