International electric car maker Tesla has finally formally announced opening up its India operations. They are scheduled to open their first showroom in the Lower Parel area of Mumbai and also its India headquarters in the same vicinity. They also announced the appointment of Chitra Thomas as their Head of Human Resources which also indicates that hiring could be intensified in the coming months.
Tesla will also begin the work on its manufacturing unit in Bengaluru where the initial rollout will be for only the Tesla Model 3. Initially, the cars will be imported from China in the CBU (Completely Build Up) route and are then set to move over to the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route once the factory is complete. This will then help in reducing the prices even further.
With Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief Ministers Yediyurappa and Uddhav Thackeray welcoming Tesla with open arms, it seems to be a rather easy ride for the international company. This could lead to a revolution of sorts in the country with more people ditching the trend of buying the diesel guzzling SUV. Needless to say, this will lead to large scale employment both on the technical backend and also on the marketing and operations side of things.
Tesla is already showing signs of tapping into the talent pool within India by hiring ex IIM executives for major roles within the India operations.
Tesla cars have been in the news lately for multiple cases of hackers hacking into the system and drivers losing control of their cars. In some cases, losing their cars completely. The AI-powered system in cars has now been upgraded to prevent this from happening in the future. The AI system used by Tesla is predominantly used for its autopilot mode functionality while also helping in various other elements like traffic density detection and intelligent driving.

This is extremely useful to the car manufacturer for considering the finer adjustments to be made while building out the car. This includes stuff like the hardness of the suspension, air pressure needed in the tires etc.
Our sources tell us that this is where Tesla has now hit a snag.
