Test the spirits.

In the Bible, the phrase "test the spirits" means to be skeptical of teachings and to determine if they come from God or a demonic spirit. This is a command in 1 John 4:1, which says, "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God". 

Here are some ways to test the spirits: 

• Confession of Jesus Christ: According to 1 John 4:2-3, spirits that confess that Jesus Christ came in the flesh are from God, while those that do not are not. 
  

The reason to test the spirits is that many false prophets have gone out into the world. The undiscerning can be victimized by these false teachers.
