Tests in life
Speaker: Rev. Sophia Wong
1. Tests of faithfulness
• This test comes to prove your faithfulness. In Joseph’s life, Faithfulness is seen beyond his role, title, and position. Faithfulness is seen by his commitment in small tasks in his daily chores
• Joseph was not trained to do house chores nor shepherding his father’s sheep
• The coat of many colours symbolizes favour
Take away lessons:
• If you want to do godly work, you are to be trained to be a godly person.
• Partnership with God is: 100% God’s work and 100% Man’s response to God’s training.
• Your home is a place to test your compassion & patience with each other.
2. Tests of Wilderness
• Watch out for the following temptations
• Watch out for the voice of temptation. Joseph replied to the woman: “my master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” And though the woman spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be with her. (39: 9-10)
• You should therefore ask yourself: What are the voices surrounding you daily? Or ask yourself: “What would Jesus do?”
• Watch out for the eye of temptation
• We should ask ourselves: Who are we under the watch of? How should we be spending our time?
3. Tests of forgiveness
• This test shows that you’re not easily offended and are ready to forgive others.
• The story of a rescue dog named Puffy
Take away Lessons:
• Don’t compare yourselves nor your children with others.
• Theodore Roosevelt says: Comparison is the thief of joy.
• Focus on your own progress over perfection. My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. (2Cor. 12:9)
