Texas' Tough Border Bill Spurs Judicial Whiplash

A federal appeals court blocked a Texas law that would allow the state’s own law enforcement to arrest migrants suspected of illegally crossing the border, a decision that came just hours after the Supreme Court ruled the bill could take effect. This state immigration law, S.B. 4, has two key parts: it would make illegal crossings a Class B misdemeanor and would require state judges to order migrants convicted of crossing to return to Mexico. Texas’ Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber joins the Rundown to give his perspective on the border crisis, why he believes the bill won’t shrink the rising illegal crossings, and what kind of action he wants to see from the Biden administration.
