Last week, NASA sent signals to fire up backup thrusters on Voyager 1, a spacecraft making its way through interstellar space that launched in 1977. NASA’s test was successful even though the thrusters have been idle for 37 years, and switching to the backups should extend Voyager 1’s lifespan by two to three years.
