The Two Gay Geeks have a chat with author, Rory Michaelson. Rory has written two books that perfectly fit in with the Halloween theme, Lesser Known Monsters and The Bone Gate. He tells us how he got into writing and how these books got their start. There are some interesting tidbits in this interview. Have a listen and we hope you enjoy this as much as we did.
About Rory Michaelson
Rory Michaelson (They/He) has worked a very sensible non-creative day job for the last decade and a half, but was recently inspired to write the stories they always wish had been accessible to them whilst growing up. Now they have been completely sucked into a new and exciting world of sharing adventures with queer joy, silly jokes, lots of drama, and horrifying adventures. They released their debut book, a queer dark fantasy called ‘Lesser Known Monsters’, last Halloween. One year on, with the sequel ‘The Bone Gate’ recently unleashed, and the finale on the horizon, Rory is still trying to figure out how all this works, how the series should end, and what new beginnings there will be afterward. Rory grew up on camp horror comedy like ‘The Fearless Vampire Killers’ and ‘Fright Night’ and loves stories that blend genre’s, have satisfying arcs and explosive endings.

About the Lesser Known Monster Series

Think Penny Dreadful meets Queer as Folk in a wild, rambunctious, and sometimes ridiculous ride with thrills, spills, and lots and lots of teeth. The Lesser Known Monsters series follows Oscar Tundale, a young man who is average in many ways, and less than average in more. Oscar lives a rather mundane and awkward life, until he encounters an injured child that warns him that not everything is what it seems. Oscar learns that monsters are real, and they’re everywhere, and even worse—he might be falling in love with one. Now he must navigate the darker side of London, even though he could barely handle the world as he knew it before. He may not be the strongest or smartest, but with his kind heart, and the help of his found family Zara and Marcus (who more than make up for his shortcomings), Oscar needs to learn what it means to be a hero, and if he can do that he might just be able to save the world.
