While we light fireworks, clink glasses, and write new hopes on fresh calendars, many of our heroes are thousands of miles from the people they love most. Their New Year’s Eve isn’t spent in living rooms glowing with holiday lights, but on ships cutting through cold seas, in distant bases under unfamiliar skies, or in forward positions where the clock strikes midnight quietly, without confetti. Yet even from afar, they hold the line that keeps our nation safe enough to celebrate freely. These men and women carry the weight of duty through a season meant for family, warmth, and belonging. They miss first steps, empty chairs at dinner tables, and hugs that will have to wait. But they also carry pride: the pride of serving something greater than themselves, of being the vigilant guardians of peace when the world turns the page to a new year. Tonight, as we celebrate here at home, let’s keep a place in our hearts for them. Let’s send them gratitude that travels faster than time zones, and prayers that follow every convoy, every patrol, and every lonely night. For every troop away from home this season — we see you, we thank you, and we’ll keep a light on for your safe return.
