I sometimes feel like filling ourselves up is a prerequisite for Thanksgiving. We all have those favorite things to enjoy. And many of us gather around the table and each answer a question along the lines of "What are you thankful for this year?".
But what if we look at being thankful 365 days a year, and especially thankful in the way scripture talks about the action of thanks
Paul digs big into the role of thankfulness in his letter to the Colossians, and especially in these three verses.
And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.
16 Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. 17 And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father. Colossians 3:15-17
The interesting thing about thankfulness is it has grace at it's core. Literally. The word is built up by expanding on the concept of grace. And a close cousin to both grace and thankfulness is the idea of generosity. So close that we really can't talk about one without talking about the other two.
Let's have that talk about thankfulness.
