Thanks for nothing! I know it's an unusual expression for a sermon on this day of national thanksgiving. People use the expression when they are upset with what a person did or did not do.
If it sounds as though I am implying that we should thank God for nothing - I am! That is what St. Paul is suggesting in our text when he says, "give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. (5:18)
All circumstances. Not just during good times, but also in bad times and yes…even when it seems that there is apparently nothing at all for which to give thanks.
