Another hit for Barbara

That Summer Night is number six in the Calloway series by Barbara Freethy. As with her other books, her characters are wonderfully developed. She doesnât spend an inordinate amount of time telling everything that came before in this series; but she manages to get the essential information in. I really liked this book and the series.

Shayla Callaway is a doctor who has just returned from Colombia where she had witnesses a massacre of the people she was taking care of. It was a great disappointment to her when the people she was helping turned. She made it back to the United States; but her boss, Dr. Robert Decker did not. Now she is worried about him. He called her and asked her to get something from his office and to find his brother and give it to him along with a message to help him. He does not want the police involved.

Reid Callaway is Robertâs twin. He is ex-military and is trying to figure out what he is going to do. His life was the military and now the âincidentâ left him unable to serve. He is trying to drown his worries when Shayla found him. He didnât want anything to do with his brother. They clashed over a girl who ended up marrying his brother. Now he has to decide whether blood is thicker than water. Will he help his brother? What trouble has Robert gotten into now?

love love love this work of art. The Callaways always provide riveting tale. Shauna is by far my favorite to date. The danger in her life is scary and attention grabbing. The hero is just what she needs. For once, she gets to be the rescuer. Told with just the right blend of anger and love. Minor characters provide good padding but don't steal the show.

I am ready for the next just to get the answers to some questions.

Another good book by Barbara Freethy

I've been powering through the Callaway series and have been enjoying them, despite some repetitious descriptions. I'm removing a star due to an increasing amount of typos and inconsistencies - for example, in this book, Shayla is once described as wearing a strapless bra and just a paragraph or two later is a description of her bra sliding down her arms. I don't know if it is errors by the author or the editor.
