Welcome to That’s Entertainment!
Today, we have a very special guest whose music has been shaping the Canadian roots scene for over six decades.
He’s a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and a true legend of folk and blues – a man who has shared stages with the likes of Pete Seeger, John Hammond Jr., and Stan Rogers, and whose songs have been covered by dozens of artists.
Yes, you know him – the one and only Ken Whiteley!
We’re celebrating a remarkable milestone: Ken has just released his 37th album, Keep Going, a record that is at once deeply personal, profoundly moving, and utterly timeless.
Inspired by an ankle injury earlier this year, Ken spent a month confined to his home, picking up his guitar and letting the music flow.
The result is an album steeped in blues and gospel traditions, drawing from the oldest wells of folk to speak directly to the world we live in today.
From the opening track, ‘Everybody’s Got to Be Tried,’ played on a 1928 National guitar, to the mandolin-quartet arrangement of the 1929 jug classic ‘Going to German,’ Keep Going connects the music of the past with the urgent voices of the present. And in tracks like ‘Reaching Higher,’ featuring the late Betty Richardson, and ‘At the End of the Day,’ a soulful meditation on transition and reflection, Ken reminds us all of the power of determination, resilience, and listening for something beyond the noise of everyday life.
So today we’ll hear about the stories behind these songs, the journey of creating music that bridges generations, and maybe even a few laughs along the way – because if there’s one thing you can always count on with Ken Whiteley, it’s wisdom, warmth, and a little bit of wit.
