The #1 absolutely essential requirement to becoming a magical human

When you are breaking bad, you hurt others. When you are breaking  good, you hurt yourself. Burnout, isolation, total loss of personhood, depression, addiction—all are symptoms of breaking yourself to be good—orienting your entire existence around the never-ending work of doing good, producing good, and proving you are good. 

And the worst part is, no one knows. Not even you. That's because you are performing precisely as expected. In fact, the more you break yourself, the better you look on the outside. You might even get big promotions, high praises, and gold stars. But it will cost you. 

At best, you will settle for a beige, boring, cardboard-tasting life. At worst, you won't even have one.
