I found Rowland after they commented on a little shameless self-promotion post. They asked me to check out their music, and you know me, I’ll listen to anything at least once. That doesn’t mean I’ll feature it on the podcast, but I really dug their album No Roller Skating. They have so many tracks to choose from, but in the end, my feels just got the better of me, and “Nevermind” was the winner.

I’m pretty sure I found Jane Hobson thanks to my Instagram algorithm. She’s got a ton of listens and no shortage of great songs to choose from. I landed on “25,” mostly because I’m a sucker for a song title with a number in it. Do yourself a favor and check out her entire catalog, especially if you’re deep in your feels.

I don’t remember exactly how I found Soup Dreams, I think they were playing a show with Bucko (episode 121)? I do remember seeing their name on a flyer with a bunch of other bands and the name alone caught my eye. Long-time listeners will know why. I checked out their album Hellbender and it was in heavy rotation. I was really tempted to go with “Hunger” because the vocals and lyrics cut me deep in my panza, but I landed on “Dust” instead. It’s a little more mellow, but don’t let your guard down, the lyrics still pack a punch.

I came across Folk Face when they were the featured artist at the Angry Mic (the last Monday of the month at Angry Horse Brewing) back in October. They didn’t have any recorded music out at the time, but since then they’ve released two songs. I went with “Say Yes to Drugs.” The recording sounds great, but honestly, they really shine live. Definitely give them a follow and keep an eye out for a show.

I can’t remember how I came across Dubious At Best, but I quickly became obsessed with their album art, and of course, their music. Their sound is really out there, I mean that with the utmost love and respect. It’s a genuinely interesting listenand you can tell it’s a group of people driven purely by their passion for making music. There is an abundance of songs I could’ve chosen to feature, in the end I landed on “In My Mind” but be sure to check out their entire catalog, you won’t be disappointed.

It’s another algorithm band this week. Champs of the Sun have clearly been blessed by the music gods, with over a thousand plays on every single song. I went with their least-listened track, “That Book,” which still has just over two thousand plays. The vocals are great, and as an added bonus, the album art is also eye-catching. Enjoy.

I don’t remember how I found Trees and Timber, pretty sure it was the algorithm again. It’s a mix of a lot of different things I like. This week I’m featuring “Pretty Things” by Tasche De La Rocha. I don’t remember exactly how I found this artist, but I do remember it was love at first listen. The first song I heard was “Daffodil,” but it had way too many listens. The one I’m sharing here is also above my usual threshold—but I do what I want. It’s off their 2022 album, Tasche De La Rocha & the Psychedelic Roses, which was in heavy rotation for me. That’s one of the new highest compliments I can give on the pod.
