The 20g and 50g mystery solder showdown

Listen Later

By request, after the previous 100g mystery solder video - here's the video where I weigh the solder from the 20g and 50g reels. Place your bets now please.

For those wondering about the weird wording on the video's thumbnail image, it's based on an old TV program called Banzai which did very silly and fun "bets".

Special thanks to John, who did an X-ray analysis on the 100g reel and found it was about 95% lead and 5% tin with a suspicious touch of cadmium.

The fumes from the flux were much more aggressive than electronic grade solder, even when diffused into the air. I'd guess it is an acid based flux to let the solder get a better bite into more difficult surfaces like stainless steel and aluminium. Not ideal for PCBs due to a future corrosion risk.

If you actually want some random-composition solder with an aggressive flux, then it came from AliExpress (not a sponsor):-
