The 3 Lies That Keep Doctors Trapped in Insurance
A doctor finally says the number out loud: $5,000 for a six-month treatment plan. She is braced for conflict, embarrassment, and a “no.” Instead, the patient looks at the price and says she expected higher. That one moment exposes what quietly holds so many clinicians back from building a profitable private practice: it is rarely the patient, and rarely the market. It is the story we tell ourselves about charging for care.
We walk through three common lies that keep doctors stuck under insurance pressure and low fees. First, “my patients will never pay out of pocket.” Patients already pay cash for deductibles, coinsurance, LASIK, cosmetic services, fitness, and more. The missing piece is a clear cash pay offer with real value and a confident presentation. Second, “if I go cash, I will lose everyone.” The hybrid practice model makes this a false choice.
