Temptation= An enticement to disobey God and rebel against Him
Temptation = Inward Desire + Opportunity
James 1:13
God cannot tempt us, ever.
13 And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and He never tempts anyone else.
Temptation is not Sin, it’s what I do with temptation that matters
James 1:14
All temptation originates from within, from our own selfish desires
14 Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away.
I have no one to blame for my sin but me
Matthew 15:19-20(NLT)
19 For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander. 20 These are what defile you.

3 Temptation Traps - Categories
1 John 2:16 (NIV)
16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.
LUST OF FLESH:
The desire to satisfy my longings and passions no matter what [physical, emotional (SEX, SLOTH, GLUTTONY, ]
LUST OF EYES:
The desire to have what I don’t have (Covetousness)
PRIDE of LIFE:
The desire to be somebody – self-important
3 Myths that make us easy prey
MYTH 1:
“My friends and everyone around me do that so it’s obviously not so bad”
MYTH 2:
“I can handle it”
MYTH 3:
“It just happened, I didn’t mean to do it”
James 1:15
My Desires, left unchecked, will lead to Deliberate Action (Sin)
15 These desires give birth to sinful actions.
Sin = Desire + Opportunity + Action

My Deliberate Action (Sin) will Lead to Regret (Consequences)
15And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.
When I take the bait of temptation, I’m saying that I believe it is more enjoyable than God

13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand.
When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you can endure.
Stay Close to a
Good God

16 So don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.

6 Ways to Escape the Traps of Temptation
1. Stop it at the gate of your mind
2. Identify your areas of weakness
3. Picture yourself doing/saying the right things
4. Make yourself accountable
5. Fill yourself with God’s Words
6. Run to the Commander (Pray)
