Any Hollywood director would tell us that there is a single formula into which all other details are filled in: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and denouement.

It is also called the “hero’s journey” where the protagonist in every story must transition from the “ordinary world” to the “special world”.

The really satisfying stories are where this structure is hidden in every sentence, paragraph, chapter, and whole, like fractals. We have a, deeper than the threshold of our awareness, need for this algorithm to unfold again and again. This is why we binge-watch shows; this is why we have to watch them until the end.

Perhaps there is no author that has done it quite to such perfection where every single detail weaves in purposefully and clicks together harmoniously. However, there is an author and director that is greater than any known to man. That is the author of our universe, our existence, and everything that is beyond this reality.
