Welcome to The 60 and More Crowd Podcast. 

This is a show where we talk about a modern retirement shift. People in their 60’s, 70’s and more deciding to keep working in some capacity, re-defining retirement more than any previous generation. Because for those of us in the 60 and More Crowd (me too) , work isn’t over. It’s evolving. This is a Canadian based podcast with a wide global lens.

 I am Sue Plant, the host, producer, creator and chief research officer too. I guide the conversation with listeners around the modern global workplace.

We older workers bring immense value to the marketplace.

•  Whether you're considering staying in your current role, phased/semi retirement, returning to the workforce or exploring new ventures
•  In Canada where I reside, 22% of people over the age of 65 are continuing to work. Whether you're considering staying in your current role, un-retiring and returning to work or exploring new ventures, people are choosing to do so for different reasons. Japan’s 65+ workforce, high rate of participation is also spotlighted in this episode.

What's my connection and interest in the work longer topic? 

• After leaving my longtime corporate career, I chose to keep working in new ways and became intrigued- how were others navigating the same path.
•  This inspired me to launch the 60 and More Crowd Podcast to open the conversation and dig into the topic. I’m excited to collaborate, share insights and keep learning  to keep you informed. 
• Episodes are short on the go episodes less than 10 minutes. The working longer trend is a multi-layered topic. Each episode will discuss various aspects of the process and the changing global work landscape.

Welcome to this new episode of The 60 and More Crowd Podcast. 

 Here on the podcast the focus is on working longer/keeping a work chapter in your 60's, 70's and more. Something big is happening in the workplace: this is a generation where many people say they intend to work into their 70's and/or longer. Many people are also "un-retiring" and jumping back into the workforce. 

This  episode dives into The Rise of Un‑retirement and why more people across the globe across are choosing to  stay in the workforce longer vs a traditional hard stop retirement.  How is the shifting the workplace? We  shine a spotlight on age 65+ demographic rends in Europe, Canada and the US. 

Episode themes : three powerful drivers shaping this global shift:
• Age demographics and the realities of an aging population
• Worker surveys revealing why people are choosing, what they need
• New ways to work that make longer careers possible: phased retirement, semi-retirement, part-time, launching second careers

The World Economic Forum states: in the G7, there are now more people over 65 than under 15. The WEF also states that nearly 10% of the global population is over 65+.

Many people across the globe who are in their 60’s, 70’ and beyond are approaching or moving past traditional retirement timelines and delaying their exit from the workforce. In Canada, close to 25% of people over the age of 65 are working in some capacity.

In this episode we are taking an initial look at trends/key themes of older worker participation around the globe: Japan, Switzerland, Denmark, The Netherlands and Canada.  What's in place from employers and organizations to retain and re-engage these valuable older workers? Flexible employment, career shifts?

Employers/organizations navigating this shift to the labour force as people stay longer in the workforce.  I am curious to keep researching this!
