Very moving book
This is a very moving and evocative book, beautifully, really beautifully, written and produced. The English can stand as a benchmark for how educated stylish English should read. I suppose the book falls into the class of "Self-development" but it has nothing to do with the pushy, self-aggrandizement philosophy of the modern s-d movement. The author, through an examination of his own background in Egypt, looks gently and intelligently at how the human spirit grows. The book is divided into seven parts, self, mind, body, heart, people, time, and change. Each part has four of five chapters, which all follow the same pattern. They begin with the author's personal portrait, which is autobiographical and illustrates the way ahead. But he then turns the chapter gently towards the reader with a discussion of salient points, a development of themes; every chapter then ends with an 'action plan', a set of exercises for the reader to follow, and a short suggested reading list.
I personally found that reading through the book gave me a fresh and gentler view of life and other people. I made more effort to be kind and understanding - I hope I became a better person.
