Saturday, August 5, 2023, a group blocked the Harriott II. A commercial city riverboat from docking at Montgomery Riverfront Park in Alabama, US.
The co-captain warned signs prohibiting parking. He asked pontoon occupants to move five times until getting off the riverboat to move it himself. Their altercation was caught on viral videos trending #Alabamariverboatbrawl.
Fueled by alcohol, before getting hit with a wrestling chair. The aggressive boaters were beaten in their brawl until police arrived. Four people were arrested and accused of third-degree assault.
Their assaults and disorderly conduct include attacking a teenage dockhand who jumped off the riverboat and swam to join dozens of bystanders helping the dockworker. The incident sparked conversations about race relations. Condemned by some as racially motivated, while others say it is a case of drunken violence.
Mayor Steven Reed, calls it "an unfortunate incident which never should have occurred." Promising, “justice will be served.” The viral fight videos show a group of White people, dragging, punching, kicking, and choking Damien Pickett, who is Black. It’s going to be interesting to hear reasons this group gives for aggression towards his authority and lashing out. Not the first time this group blocked the dock.
Outnumbered by a crowd that soured the myopic belief of privileges.
