The Alexandria Hospital Murders

Listen Later

This episode recounts the notorious 1997 case of Aida Nour El-Din, an Egyptian nurse accused of murdering 29 patients using the muscle relaxant Pavulon. Suspicion arose when a young survivor identified her as the one who administered a paralyzing injection, sparking a major media and legal investigation. Allegedly, she confessed that the acts were intended to gain the attention of a doctor she loved.
However, a determined defense challenged the credibility of witnesses and the medical evidence, leading to the overturning of her initial death sentence. She was ultimately convicted of negligence and served seven years in prison. The case remains one of Egypt’s most puzzling criminal mysteries and inspired a popular television drama.
