This segment of TAGS is a briefing hosted by American Community Media, titled, Sorting Through New and Confusing —Vaccine Recommendations”

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, which provides recommendations to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, met September 18-19. ACIP issued new recommendations for several vaccines, most significantly the MMR — measles, mumps, rubella — and the Hepatitis-B vaccine. Earlier, ACIP issued new guidance on the Covid-19 vaccine, severely limiting eligibility.The committee’s recommendations clashed with long-standing policy, and have caused concern in the medical community at large. Several states have announced they will not follow ACIP’s guidelines, including Arizona, and instead develop their own protocols.

Speakers this week will discuss their concerns about ACIP’s recommendations. Panelists are, Dr. Maurizio Bonacini, CEO, Mission Gastroenterology and Hepatology and associate clinical professor, University of California, San Francisco; Dr. Peter Chin-Hong, infectious diseases specialist and Professor of Medicine, University of California, San Francisco; Dr. Yvonne - Bonnie - Maldonado, Professor of Pediatrics and of Health Research and Policy at Stanford University, with a focus on Infectious Diseases; Dr. Benjamin Neuman, Professor of Biology, Texas A&M University.

Neal Lester, Ph.D. is Foundation Professor of English and Founding Director of Project Humanities at Arizona State University. He has been a Professor of English at Arizona State University since 1997, having taught previously at the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa)—the first African American faculty member tenured in the Department of English--and at the University of Montevallo (AL).

I’ve been blessed to have one biological sister and five bonus sisters. Each have made a significant difference in my life and the lives of others. In this segment of TAGS’ my guest for the FIRST HOUR, 2:00 p.m. – 3: p.m. is my bonus sister, humanitarian Kathy Shaw Johnson.Join us as we discuss the amazing work Kathy has been doing in Uganda for over two decades, changing lives, changing communities.

She has sacrificed much on her flight attendant salary and gained much through her work. Her Ugandan children have come from poverty and are now doctors, dentists and more, her grandchildren are embracing a new and different future. We also discuss projects like the food forest, medical camp and more. This segment of TAGS is a “DON’T MISS SHOW!” As many of you know, my motto is “Today is a great day to make somebody’s day great,” she has not only embraced that, but taken it to a higher level.

TAGS guest is Mr. Larnell Farmer, president West Valley Maricopa County West Valley NAACP.Join us as we discuss what's happening with the West Valley NAACP Branch, the fight for justice in several incidents in the West Valley and his journey to leading the Branch and much more. Farmer, retired from the Waukegan Illinois Police Department after serving 23 years.

He moved his family to Arizona in 2012 and was active in organizing the Branch along with former AZ State Rep, the late Dr. Gerae Peten and others. Due to the rapidly growing West Valley they knew a branch of the oldest civil rights group was needed in that area.
